There’s a specific group of men who are ‘very online’ and whom I think of as ‘productivity bros.’ This is not meant to be pejorative; I like and admire these men and I subscribe to their newsletters.
Oh yeah. Totally relate. I recognized a few years back that trying to be happy is not the same as being happy. Trying is grinding and anxious. Being is embodied presence. Two completely different states. I love your comparison of these two states in the productivity universe. Great read!!
At a certain age, I no longer care so much about productivity, but enjoying life… the more I spend time with people older than me, more perspective I have. Life is not just about productivity, and “winning the game” but enjoying the fruit of our labor. It’s taken me a long time to get there, but priorities changed with age.
That's great! I'm glad we're allowing ourselves to some freedom to enjoy life ;) I really appreciated your perspective in this post! And started checking out your work - so inspirational! I'm glad you've been pursuing your dreams :)
I know who you mean, too. ;) I subscribe to one of them and use the weekly newsletter as a reminder to stay focused on my own goals. If something really valuable jumps out, I'll write it down. I think I've taken one overall idea from all of them and am working to implement it. (Tiny consistent actions lead to big results over time, whether positive or negative.) The rest, I don't worry about anymore.
That’s a great takeaway and it’s smart to make that one idea your focus. And it’s so true—tiny actions do lead to big results over time. It’s almost surreal, when one looks back… Thank you for sharing this, Dawn!
Courtney, your post is brilliant. It really hit home for me. You uncovered a part of me that thought if I read enough of the productivity bros I'll become more like them. Their catchy headlines and bits of wisdom are intoxicating. As you said, the ‘genius’ thing a person can do is shut out distractions and do the work that matters most to them. Thanks for your clarity and awakening insights.
Haha I can hazard a very fine guess on who you’re talking about 😂😂😂 I adore this post. It’s so true. All of it 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I thought 'no one is going to relate to this', so I'm glad you related to it! Thank you for telling me, Puja!

Good distinction. “Embodied presence.” Will remember this. Thank you, Michael.

I relate. Thank you for sharing where you're at. I love the title of your Substack!
